Thanks for stopping by! Hey, why don't you do what all the cool kids are doing and subscribe to my RSS feed? You know you want to, so go ahead, be bad, be very very bad... :) Thanks.
While I was trying to get some work done on Saturday, I was watching the NFL playoffs. During a commercial break, there was a commercial for GMC where they were running a contest and the winner would receive tickets to the Superbowl and a new truck. All I had to do for a chance of winning was go to this URL which they mentioned several times. I thought why not, I will register for a chance to go to the Superbowl as it has always been a dream of mine to go. So I typed in the URL and I waited for the page to load…………….. Hmm, taking quite a while to load. I waited some more… Finally, Firefox came back with an error that the page was taking too long to load. I tried again, this time the page loaded, but there was nothing on the page. It was blank.
I really do not know if the server could not handle the traffic or there were some other problems, but I guess I wondered, was the web site properly tested before launching it and running the commercial? I have a feeling that someone looked over the commercial before it aired correct? Why is the web any different?
I am waiting for companies and marketing agencies alike to start realizing that their web efforts should go through the exact same scrutiny and QA as the steps they go through to ensure that their commercials, radio spots and print ads are working and are what they want. They need to start realizing that the web is just another medium to market with and can have as much if not more impact than the offline advertising methods.
