Scoble – Is It All About Ego?

28 January 2007 by Cord Silverstein, 6 Comments

Thanks for stopping by! Hey, why don't you do what all the cool kids are doing and subscribe to my RSS feed? You know you want to, so go ahead, be bad, be very very bad... :) Thanks.

eI have been a long time reader of Robert Scoble. I enjoyed his writing way back when he first started blogging at Microsoft. What made him interesting was that he did not write the company line. At times, he admitted when things were wrong at Microsoft even challenging MS employees and praising other companies. Robert posted a story this weekend about larger blogs not linking to anyone, but in reality the post was about why these larger blogs were not linking to HIM.

Robert’s rant reminded me of several instances in my career when senior managers whom I worked for started to think that they were bigger than the game. That things like share price, options and when is my next interview became more important than the business, the employees and the vision.

Robert, I have never personally met you and would love the opportunity to do so, but come on… Do you wake up everyday and write great articles and do your Podcast just to get a link on Engadget? If so, maybe you need to rethink why you are doing this in the first place. Just a humble opinion of a C class blogger.

I agree. He has an insightful opinion and puts out some unique content. But honestly, a good % of his blog posts recently have been complete crap. I deleted his post from my RSS reader b/c I got sick of one sentence posts like “I just had a burrito and it was awesome” or “I’m off to the bathroom, have a good one”.

LOL, I totally hear you Matt. I also at times find his Podcasts so long that I feel like I have to go and shave after watching them. Though I do find some of his articles insightful. I think he just needs to get back to what he was very good at which was discussing and sharing his opinions on technology. Thanks for your comments Matt.

    Post from Scoble today:

“Maryam found a cute web site that lets you make an image of the kind of M&M you are. Now I know why Maryam is so sweet. She’s an M&M! (the image she has is wonderful).”

    classic.
