Thanks for stopping by! Hey, why don't you do what all the cool kids are doing and subscribe to my RSS feed? You know you want to, so go ahead, be bad, be very very bad... :) Thanks.
I am a big proponent of free speech. I remind myself of this every time someone stands up and says something that causes my blood to boil. One person who has made a career of this is Ann Coulter. Now before everyone starts reaching for their soap boxes, let me state a couple of disclaimers. I am a bleeding heart liberal, pro-choice and pro-marriage (for hetero or homosexual couples). This pretty much translates into that I have been in HELL for the last 8 years. But my problem with Ann Coulter is not that she is a right wing republican or that we have differing views and opinions. In a democracy, you must have differing views that is what made this country what it is today.
My issue with Ann Coulter is she has made a career of just throwing these flame comments with absolutely nothing to back it up other than for her own self interests. As most of you know, she recently referred to John Edwards as a “faggot” in a recent speech she was making to the American Association of Klansman or was it to the United Tight Ass Association, I can’t remember. Anyhow, this woman seems to think that she can say anything she wants, but not be held accountable for her words.
Well after this most recent comment, some bloggers have taken a different tact to get this woman’s attention and that is through her wallet. A number of bloggers have started complaining to companies who were advertising on her web site. I am sorry, I will not put a link to her site here. You want to check it out, go google her. So far Verizon, Sallie Mae and NetBank have pulled all advertising from her site since her reference to John Edwards. It is a drop in the bucket compared to the kind of money she makes, but it will be interesting to see if any Republican candidates will associate with her after this latest comment.

I’ve said this before:
Ann Coulter is a conscienceless hussy for whom no slander is too low (her treatment of the 9/11 widows said it all).
She told us herself that she’s a mean-spirited, bigoted conservative, and may I add, a hate-monger besides.
Apparently, she’ll say just about anything to get the attention she craves. I don’t think it’s out of line to call her the ultimate media-whore.
I think Vince said it perfectly - “she’ll say just about anything to get the attention she craves”. And I don’t think she’ll stop as long as it continues to work.
The way to defeat her is to ignore her. Unfortunately, I can’t see that happening, because her outrageous statements provoke an emotional response and make for good headlines.
*LOUD APPLAUSE*
Had no idea this was even going down. Love it. Thanks Cord.
Be interesting how she will react. Using the “free market” to get to her. Brilliant.
Oh PaLeeze….
This is a country where free speach is still sacred and supported. Maybe she knows someting we don’t. I am not sticking up for her nor am I gonna throw her under the bus. She is too hot to do that, I digress, being the conservative flame thrower she is, how does it feel Liberals and Dems to have somebody throw back? C’mon there is daily mud slinging from the Dems toward, The President, Cheney, and any other Republican so now you know what it is like to say something about someone and have little or no truth to the statement.
karma is a biotch aint it?
Well as the obvious lone conservative here I’m sure I’ll get hell for this, but here goes.
First - She never did bash the 911 widows in the way you guys think she did. The liberal media really took what she said out of context and ran with it. I’m not going to go into why you’re wrong on this here, but if you want to debate, you can just e-mail me.
Second - I was disgusted by her faggot comment when I heard it too until I heard what she was referring to. I never knew that some actor had to go to rehab for using that word and that’s what she was apparently mocking. Again, the liberals say they’re for free speech, but please don’t use the F word or you’ll have to be institutionalized.
Last - I really hope you were as angry and appalled by all of the good liberals referring to our president as a Nazi, war monger or calling our troops stupid. How about Bill Maher suggesting that Cheney should be killed. That didn’t get much press.
Or Cord, since you brought up the Klan, how about the former Klansman from WV (my home state) who, in an interview with Alan Colmes, said “I’ve seen white niggers.” Was that upsetting to you? I’m guessing that’s your party.
I’m really sick of all the crap the left gets away with. All of the ‘botched jokes’ and stuff and never gets called on the carpet for it - especially by good, peace loving liberals. But when someone from the right says something out of line - look out.
Anyway, that’s my 2 cents. Let the flaming begin!
Great post and I totally agree with you Cord - she should be held accountable for sure. I also applaud those companies for pulling their advertisements for not wanting to be associated with her - not solely because of her comment, but because she was speaking at a conference for the American Association of Klansman, which has some extremely negative implications as well. Unfortunately, she’s also using a smart target marketing strategy and will still reap benefits from those people that agree with her. Not that anyone should really adhere to the ignorant philosophy of the American Association of Klansmen, but there are people that do.
Regardless, this is a great example of how the Internet can influence companies to be socially responsible (and hopefully will continue to become more influential in the future).
I’d also love to retort to Mike, but it doesn’t seem like the right forum for that given that this is a marketing blog.
David, Ann Coulter is too hot??? Damn boy, you really need to get out more. The woman is a tree branch that breathes. She is all above Eve and one of these days karma is going to bite her right in the ass!
I’m a political fence rider, a libertarian. I mostly want the government out of my business. In the past I’ve leaned more to the right, but the pendulum always swings back. No matter how I vote, though, I know that Ann Coulter is a hack and she only makes those that she supports look bad. She’s only trying to sell more books, and I think her approach is lame. She’s a talentless hack and needs to be shelved.
I have read Godless and there are chapters where I believe she is misguided. I do agree with Mike S on the 911 wives. I sympathize, but c’mon get on with your lives. Ann Coulter is just weighing in like others in the political world, the only difference is she has a pen. What is the difference between Ac and The Hillary? They both are women who are outspoken and their convictions develop who they are. John Murtha, and all the rest of the political juggernauts are all the same in expressing their views whether they are true or not and usually for their own ego and monetary gain down the road. So let’s get over what she said, as I am positive John Edwards has been called worse names especially after screwing someone in a legal case in NC.
Ok David, you need to put down the crack pipe and step away from your keyboard. There are an incredible amount of differences between Ann Coulter and Hilary and none of them is because she is a writer!! AC says things that are totally preposterous with absolutely no care of who she hurts with her words. She is a talking head that says nothing that adds any value to the public debate.
More importantly David, I will get over it when she takes RESPONSIBILITY for her actions and apologizes!! She is the one who has not said anything and is unwilling to take responsbility for her actions and words. You want to stand on your soapbox, great, we are the country to do it. Though you have to be willing to take consequences of what you say and she is unwilling or unable to do that.
Ann Coulter is too hot????? I have heard it all now. I would rather have sex with a wood chipper than touch that anorexic, disgusting, self indulged piece of trash.
LOL, thank Jud… David, I think the consensus is, you need to get out more my friend.
I’m a political independent and would likely come off as a moderate. I’ve worked in politics on both sides of the aisle.
It seems to me that both sides have their shrill, viciously rude spokespeople/writers/icons that spew out crap. Problem is that often people on a particular side can’t seem to see their own people spewing out the filth.
I completely agree with Cord regarding Ann Coulter. It’s not a matter of free speech. Can’t stand her and can’t stand what she contributes to the political debate. I’m pumped she’s suffering a fallout. Blogged about it here: bloggerd about it myself at http://digitalstreetjournal.com/?p=198 and http://www.campaign08blog.com/2007/03/05/ann-coulter-youtube-and-the-future-of-rapid-response/
A month ago, the Edwards campaign hired a blogger by the anme of Amanda Marcotte. She’s an uber feminist who had written some derogatory things about Catholicism. To wit:
“Q: What if Mary had taken Plan B after the Lord filled her with his hot, white, sticky Holy Spirit?
A: You’d have to justify your misogyny with another ancient mythology.”
As a Catholic, that pissed me off. It’s equating the Holy Spirit with a penis. Blogger about it here: http://digitalstreetjournal.com/?p=193
I just jumped on pretty hard for that one when I talked about it on DailyKos and MyDD. The left proved to be as intolerant as the right. But that’s politics today.
