All of the 2008 presidential candidates are jumping on the YouTube-MySpace social media bandwagon, but what role if any will user generated videos have on the presidential race? The 1984 Macintosh commercial was used as the back drop to promote Barack Obama’s campaign. It will be interesting to see just how far these home grown can go when it comes to impacting who will be our next president.

I love this commercial, and it’s a great idea to integrate this into a political campaign (the association is perfect in so many ways).
I’m just confused about something - was this produced by someone outside of the campaign? If so, Barack’s people should consider hiring the person that did this.
Clay,
According to the reports that I read, this was done totally independently by a Obama fan and had nothing to do with the campaign. We shall see if that is actually or true or not.
Interesting - If it’s a Wal-mart or Sony user-generated scam, I guarantee that’ll do in their campaign. If it is, the republican party would be smart to get some research about this. Not that I should be giving them ideas since I really like Barack (lol - I am Canadian so it’s not like I get to vote anyway, just sit back and hope for the good of the U.S. and the world that someone like him becomes president).
I’m sure all sorts of political types are looking at what was done here and will look to replicate it. There was actually a video put together by a DC based outfit called DCI - a conservative/Republican group that counts Mobil as a big client that put together a sham video that featured Al Gore.
