I know this has nothing to do with Marketing, BUT

6 June 2007 by Cord Silverstein, 14 Comments

Thanks for stopping by! Hey, why don't you do what all the cool kids are doing and subscribe to my RSS feed? You know you want to, so go ahead, be bad, be very very bad... :) Thanks.

As I do most days, today I was sitting here at my desk over lunch enjoying some nice soup while I check out my usual news haunts to catch up on what is going on in the world. I stumbled onto this little gem of a story from CNN.

Overall, a high school in Galesburg, Illinois is withholding the diplomas of five students who were graduating high school because at the graduation ceremony, people cheered when their names were called… I know, you might need to let that sink in for a second or two, so your brain can process the utter stupidity involved with this. These five students are all females and several of them are graduating with honors and now are being punished because people in the stands, not them, cheered when their names were called.

Now I know you won’t believe me when I say that we still have not reached the top of this ridiculous story. The schools administration met with these 5 woman and their families and STILL refused to give them their diplomas until they apologize…. APOLOGIZE?!?!?! So people in the stands cheer and it is their fault and now they need to apologize.

I like to officially nominate all the administration from Galesburg High School to be added to the newly formed, STUPIDEST PEOPLE ON THE PLANET HALL OF FAME. Ground breaking is expected to start early next year and I would like to officially nominate these administrators as the first official candidates to be entered.

But I would be remiss if I did not introduce you to the leader of the gang that couldn’t shoot straight…

ChiliesLadies and gentleman, boys and girls, here is the principle of Galesburg High School, Mr. Tom Chiles. In his spare time when he is not torturing the lives of young people, he enjoys continually banging his head against the wall. When asked why he does this, he responded, “Cause it feels so good when I stop.” :)

So do I get a second on my nomination?

Ok, they have officially been nominated for the STUPIDEST PEOPLE ON THE PLANET HALL OF FAME.. Now all in favor of admitting these ridiculous, way too much time on their hands, anal schmucks, please say “Yea” all opposed, please say, “Nay”.

I 4th it, and bet you this same bunch of idiots would be the first to scream over “lack of parental involvement” if their parents didn’t come. Give me a break.

Completely in favor Cord. Why are there so many damn regulations these days and especially on things like this which are supposed to be for the good of society. Not enough families support and appreciate the workand effort there kids put into education or athletics and when we have a situation where a family does support their kids we are going to punish them???? Complete and utter BS! I think I’m taking a trip to Galesburg.

Krista – So right, total BS…

Jud – You up for a road trip??? Let’s head over and talk to that principal. Let’s take it to the streets baby!! :)

I say “Yay!” Gotta agree with this one. To think this all starts at a school…a place of learning, eduction….and the leaders of that institution are being this thick headed….thinking on this too long is starting to make me dizzy.
My only questions are, “Who do they want them to apologize to and how?” Will they hold another graduation ceremony? I can see it now. They can bring the whole community back together in the school gym to see if the parents/families can contain themselves this time and “behave”. They can give each of the families time at the podium to publicly apologize. Or are they going to require them to buy ad space in the local paper and publish an open letter? Ok…have to stop now…I think I’m blacking out.

LOL! I love the fact that you dug down and found the principal! You rock, Cord!

Those kids deserved it. I am sure by going to class, doing extra curricular activities and getting good grades they must have been real difficult students over their four years and he finally had had enuf of it. I completely understand his mindset when deciding to really punish these hoodlums as much as I understand why the judge allowed Paris Hilton to leave jail after 3 days due to a rash.

There has to be more to this story. Could it really be as simple as cheering for a few students? I don’t follow.

First of all Mr. David…. the kids at our school are not hoodlums, you dont even know what the story was… so before you start calling people names, you need to get the scoop on every thing!
