Hmm.. I am not a big fan of the commercial, but this is way more subtle then what we show our children in elementary school. Are we so afraid of informing people that we Americans have sex? I mean this is not even close to some of those Rapper Videos or a Vagisil commercial.

I’d say because it treats sex lightly, as something natural, rather than as something dirty and sordid– the way the cultural puritans like to portray it.

Ahhh, Hipster, how do you find these things? You have a knack. CBS and Fox knocked it because, like most americans we have sex on the brain and are afraid of sex being out in the open.

Because of our obsession, our puritanical obsession with sex and sex in public they missed the whole point of the commercial. The commercial was not about sex, it was about responsibility, it was about protection, it was about maturity.

Evolve, was the word. Evolve from being a Pig, be responsible, be mature, sex is not a game, or something that should be addressed lightly. Sex comes with responsibility, and one of those responsibilities is protection. In today’s society, it is a great message. A message that is absolutely relevant.

Our puritanical obsession with sex gnaws at us everyday. We send our children into the world unprepared. We fight education about diseases (aids) that can destroy lives and we minimize entire social communities(homosexuals)because of this obsession. When we will let go, and start seeing it’s not about the sex!

It makes me wonder what are the GUYS, cause we know they’re guys, at FOX and CBS hiding? Horny suckers, I’m sure!

Nice work Hipster. Peace, I’m out!

You got it, Vince. The networks, sadly, don’t see the value in advancing a compelling social agenda. They’d rather continue to shroud the issue of sexual health beneath shame and secrecy. There’s more diecussion on this topic at: http://www.unboundedition.com/content/view/955/1/

Hey guys, you all have made great points and I could not agree more. You know the funny thing is that CBS and Fox did Trojan a great favor as they have gotten more free press and more people have watched this commercial than they ever would paying for regualar spots.

Thanks for the comments as always.

    Cord,

You beat me to it but i will comment anyway. This strategy of creating a commercial just so it will be banned for some silly insignificant reason is a tactic most memorably employed by GoDaddy over the past couple of years for the SuperBowl.

There is actually no clear reason why this ad wouldn’t be accepted. Trojan is just trying to explore the online space.

This ad in and of it’s self is nothing special. However, add in the context of a boxus un acceptance by fox and nbc and you ahve your self some bonified buzz.

Chances are they sent in the ad to run diring a kids show or something just to guarantee a no vote.

    It’s just good viral marketing.

You bet your ass this was a concerted effort and not some, “oh, no, we were denied, better make the best of it” kind of deal.

PS. I still have yet to hear anything about A&TT and the RIAA in mainstream media.

That’s what happens when you post a comment while sleepy and reckless. Sorry for all the misspellings. :P

  8. Sean Howard 22 June 2007 at 10:58 pm #

The executives of both organizations do no wear condoms and are afraid of being called swines??? ;)

  9. Adri 23 June 2007 at 5:27 pm #

The official word is that this commercial does not promote condoms exclusively as a means to prevent disease, and ads for birth control are “too controversial” to air.

I wrote a very irritated post about it, myself: Trojan: Evolved, TV Networks: Pigs. Please pardon the mess… still getting the site together.

  10. Andy 25 June 2007 at 8:01 am #

Banning the ad for highlighting birth control (which it doesn’t) is absolute madness.

What are kids being taught in American schools? If it’s too controversial to educate that condoms are also for birth control, virgin (STD free) kiddies will start making babies everywhere!

Besides, all the ad says is that men are dirty pigs.

  11. louis 9 July 2007 at 9:26 pm #

You are all wrong. It was rejected because CBS and FOX are not stupid. I do not enjoy seeing men portrayed as pigs. If you look at the commercial, all men are pigs until they use a condom? Sorry that doesn’t fly with me. What are they saying about women. That they are so pathetic they will HANG around with pigs until they put on a condom? Aren’t condom users normally between the ages of 21 and 40? That is a huge demographic to alienate. It appears that the ad is geared toward women more-so than men. Why? Men are the condom buyers. I know women buy them as well, but they risk being embarrassed when they do. So they still don’e. So in conclusion, I am not a pig and neither are you and we should pretty much buy Rameses condoms, and let trojan make a living off of their new demographic: Women.

  12. steve 10 July 2007 at 12:53 pm #

So hardly anyone thinks this ad was rejected because it characterizes men as unevolved pigs (at least until they buy into the marketing scheme that is implying this)? hmmm. maybe it is time to evolve. I dunno. I guess I’d rather be unevolved than de-evolving.

  13. steve 10 July 2007 at 12:59 pm #

So you don’t think degrading characterizations of an entire gender group is wrong. fine. how about implying that it is only a man’s responsibility to behave in a sexually intellegent manner?

  14. Cord Silverstein 10 July 2007 at 1:28 pm #

Louis – I have to totally disagree with you that the commercial was rejected because men were shown as pigs. Did you have a bad experience with a Trojan that you want to talk about with the class? Come on, share…

Steve – I could not agree more with both of your points. Thanks for your comments.
