The iPhone Bubble
Investors along with everyone else was surprised to learn yesterday that AT&T reported activating 146,000 iPhones during the first two days it was on sale. This number might seem like a large number, but analysts were predicting over 200,000 with some estimating being as high as 500,000.
“We have noticed decent inventories [of the iPhone] at stores, and thin demand at best,” analyst Ittai Kidron of CIBC World Markets wrote in a report Tuesday. “In fact, most Apple store visitors were not looking at the device and only a very small subset bought it.”
Kidron also noted a recent survey of buyers of the device found that its key drawback is “poor data connectivity” that affects how quickly users can access and use the Internet over the device. The iPhone works over AT&T’s EDGE network for data, which is slower than other so-called 3G networks that are coming online in markets around the world. Yet another very good reason why you need serious therapy to sign a two year contract with AT&T.
The iPhone is barely out of its box and the news is already cautious at best, disappointing at worst. Here’s my thoughts on what is going to happen next. We will start reading and hearing complaints from users either because of AT&T’s lousy customer service or their incredibly slow data network. People will start to become unhappy and definitely regret signing a two year contract with AT&T. Apple being incredibly smart will follow up with a 3G version of the iPhone where they will work with networks like Verizon and all the people who ran out on day one and signed a contract with AT&T will all want to kill themselves.
Trying Out Feevy
If you take a look at the right hand column of this blog, you will see a new little widget that I am trying out called Feevy. Feevy is a dynamic blogroll that you can display on your blog or web page. Pretty much you sign up for the service which is free and then choose what blogs you want in your blogroll. After inputting as many blogs as you want, you place a small amount of code on your blog and presto, you get a blogroll that is updated based on how recently the blogs in your blogroll have posted new articles.
I am going to give it a try and have added almost every blog that is presently in my blogroll. I thought it would be a great way to show off here some blogs that I really enjoy reading and what new stuff they have posted recently. Let me know what you think.
The iPhone Countdown Begins..
Well the industry has been in a twitter for the last couple of months with the coming launch of Apple’s iPhone. Well the time has come for the iPhone to be released this week. I was wondering whether Hipster readers were all psyched and getting ready to go out and plop down $600 bucks and sign a two year contract with big brother, I mean AT&T for the chance to own an iPhone?
Before you run out, there was a good review on Engadget where they listed out a number of things that they were not real impressed with the iPhone. They included:
- The keyboard was simply described as “disappointing”
- “It won’t replace a BlackBerry. It’s not good for text input. It’s just not a business product.”
- iPhone’s audio was “not loud or clear enough.”
Apple launched a online guided tour of the iPhone which you can view here.
So who is buying? Post a comment on whether you’re buying one or not.

Amazing Video
You gotta watch this video…
Now this guy has an amazing voice yes, but that is not what makes this video as special as it is. What makes this special, IMHO, is that this is a guy who has absolutely no confidence at all, none. It took every bit of himself just to get up there and he hit it out of the park!
Who doesn’t love an underdog story?!?!?
I’ve been Twitterized
I really tried folks. I have been hearing about it, reading about it, but I refused to check it out. I did not want to get hooked onto Twitter as that would be just one more thing that I am jacked into 24 hours day. I have too many of those already. I want to release myself from the 24/7 world not add to it, but as per usual, I am weak.
I am truly technology’s bitch. She tells me to jump, I ask how high? So I have joined up with Twitter which you can see on the right hand side of the page and so far it’s pretty cool! Anyhow, if you are on Twitter, let’s be friends.

Officially an SOB
I would like to send my personal thanks out to Liz Strauss for naming Marketing Hipster an official SOB. Now I know many of you who know me personally are saying, “I don’t need Liz to tell me that you are an SOB Cord.” And you would be absolutely right, but this time, SOB stands for Successful and Outstanding Blog. Thanks again Liz.
