A True Web Visionary

8 May 2007 by Cord Silverstein, 20 Comments

There are a great many people all around the globe doing truly cutting edge work when it comes to technology and the web. Though I believe that we all take a back seat to one man or I guess I should say one boy.  This gentleman I believe is delivering the most cutting edge work I have ever seen and each time he releases some new work I am more in awe of him than I was before. In the future, his name will be synonymous with other one name icons, like Oprah, Cher, Uma and Bono. Ladies and gentleman, a true web visionary, I give you, DaxFlame.

Marketing Bloggers Bracketology

27 March 2007 by Cord Silverstein, 9 Comments

bracketJohn Moore over at Brand Autopsy put together a bracket of the top 64 marketing blogs and put us head to head for a little March Madness of our own. Unbelievably enough, Marketing Hipster was actually invited to the big dance..

We were seeded as a #16 seed which meant we went up against a #1 seed in Creating Passionate Users. I have been a reader and fan of Kathy and Dan for a long time and even though the Hipsters are scrappy and we had cinderella dreams in our hearts, I doubt it was even close..

The Hipsters got knocked out in the first round. As I mentioned in John’s post, it was an honor just to be invited to the big dance. John even created a PDF with the entire bracket, you get download it here if you would like.

We’ll be back next year I will tell you that. The Hipsters are no one hit wonder. :)

Clairol – Try it on

30 January 2007 by Cord Silverstein, 10 Comments

My friend Sandy, a fellow Blogger over at Purple Wren posted a story on Friday, sorry Sandy I am just catching up, on Clairol‘s new Try It On Studio. This is an interactive application that allows users to upload a picture of themselves and then try on hair and hair colors to see what might be just perfect for you.. I have been meaning to try a new hairstyle since I think I have had the same one for ummmm, maybe most of my life. Though I think there was a time when I was born that I was bald for a while. Anyhow, just for fun, I decided to try it out. Click the pictures below to see me in all my glory. Now please do not hate me cause I am beautiful. We don’t playa hate here on the Hipster. :)

Spoiled Brat Video Actually a Viral Video

29 January 2007 by Cord Silverstein, No Comments

I am sure many of you have seen this already. A video of a spoiled girl who gets a new car but because it is red, she does not want it. It got all kinds of attention on YouTube. Here it is if you want to see it:

Anyhow, I just learned today that this was the first part of a three part viral video series for Dominos Pizza. I cannot find the last video where they reveal it. If you happen to know where it is, can you post it in the comments. The first video was good, the second and third went downhill dramatically.

I Have to Hand in My Techie License Immediately

19 January 2007 by Cord Silverstein, 5 Comments

Break GlassI have been avoiding this moment for quite a while now and I think it is time that I admit the problem and deal with it. I have come to the conclusion that I should not be allowed to call myself a “techie” anymore. Furthermore, I have decided it would be in the best interest of everyone if I handed in my techie license immediately. At one time, I considered myself somewhat technically proficient. Now I was never a programmer or developer, but if I needed to write a little ASP with a dash of VB and maybe some JavaScript and HTML for good measure, I was there, I could do it. I was in the zone. I would hear the Rocky theme in my head as I was creating those table cells or those SQL calls.

Though recently I have received a rude awakening as I have begun to try to better understand WordPress, PHP and all those fabulous little widgets running around. I realized that I know less and less each day and quite possibly, I might be getting dumber each day as well. That’s right, the IQ is dropping like Bush’s favorable numbers. If you ask my girlfriend, I think she would back me up on that.

I am playing around with this MyAvatar plugin which for some reason I cannot get people’s pictures to come up in the comments. It’s like a two step process and I am still screwing that up. What’s next? Should I bring into work a bib just in case I start dribbling on myself? Oh well, it is a young men and women’s game now. Maybe I need to be placed in one of those glass cases that says, “In Case of Emergency, Break Glass”. Though mine would read,

“DO NOT BREAK UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! YES, THIS MEANS YOU! NOW GO AWAY!”

Hmmm, all of a sudden I feel very depressed. Oh well, if you need me, I will be hanging over there in the corner. Hey, is needle point tough to learn?
